WildTower Company BackgroundWildTower Solutions was formed in November 2001 to exploit the contemporary opportunities in the areas of systems integration, software tools consulting and early stage product development.
The WildTower NameBill Thorne, WildTower's founder, started his career in 1977 as an IBM Systems Engineer in Burlington, Vermont. In August of 1979, Bill bought his first house: a "winterized camp" far out on a point surrounded by Lake Champlain. The camp had an attached four story tower which featured a deck on top with no railings but spectacular views. It was Bill's first wild tower, but not his last...
ScreenSurferIn his latter years at iE (www.ie.com), Bill created a product aptly named ScreenSurfer. ScreenSurfer is a versatile web-to-host application server in use throughout the Americas and Europe. Development of ScreenSurfer as a product (and a business) was performed by Bill on an entrepreneurial basis within iE, starting with himself as the single employee. Bill wrote the code, supported the customers, was webmaster for the ScreenSurfer website and developer of the ScreenSurfer Support site, both of which have since been replaced by a few web pages on the Teamstudio website and a phone number.During the tech-wreck, mounting financial pressures at iE forced the closure of their U.S. operations, requiring that the ScreenSurfer business unit be spun-off. The ScreenSurfer unit was eventually acquired by Ives Development (now know as Teamstudio) in September, 2001. Following a successful hand-over of the Screensurfer codebase to the Teamstudio development team, Bill was quickly transitioned by the entrenched executives of Teamstudio to the role of independent consultant and entrepreneur. From that moment forward, the Screensurfer product suffered rapidly declining sales and the sales and support department was subsequently discontinued in 2003. At the end of 2003, Bill and Jeff Urbanczyk (formerly of iE and Teamstudio) acquired the Screensurfer product and customers from Teamstudio, forming the Inventu Corporation. This development should breath new life into Screensurfer, which is still the most versatile and cost-effective standalone application server in the host integration market.
Flynet Screen ViewerA former Screensurfer business partner, Flynet Ltd. worked with WildTower on a consulting basis to provide user interface and integration features to their new host integration product, Screen Viewer.Built to integrate in any .NET solution, Flynet Screen Viewer uses standard Microsoft development tools to implement host integration solutions. The latest component, Flynet Studio, includes class library generation that encapsulates a complete screen based application then integrates the generated classes with a complete Visual Studio ASP.NET solution.
Today's OpportunitiesWeb-to-Host has a very high ROI when implemented correctly. For web-to-host implementations, Flynet Screen Viewer offers exceptional value both in terms of raw performance and implementation versatility. The implementation challenge is that no matter "how good the tool" you use, screen integration can impose a fairly steep learning curve on new developers. For projects of any size, the amount of learning investment required to learn both the tool and the target environment can create delays and put project success at risk. Where these challenges exist in North America, WildTower Solutions is available both on-site as well as remotely to provide consulting and development services. With WildTower's high-quality application implementations, customers can meet project schedules and realize the high ROI promise of Web-to-Host technology and other integration opportunities, such as IVR (Interactive Voice Response) and wireless device integration.
